  • Elizabeth Hilton, Counseling Intern

Hi, I’m Elizabeth Hilton, a Licensed Professional Counseling Intern currently working toward my master’s degree in counseling. I have nearly 30 years of experience as a first responder with Dallas Fire Rescue, where I served as a firefighter, medic, and dispatcher. My career in emergency services has given me deep insight into the unique mental health challenges that first responders face. I also have specialized training in Peer Support and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), which has allowed me to provide crisis intervention and emotional support to my peers and their families during difficult times.

I’m passionate about advocating for mental health resources tailored to the needs of first responders, their spouses, and families. I believe that high-stress professions come with specific mental health risks, and I’m committed to helping improve access to effective support for these individuals and their loved ones. Alongside my work in emergency services, I have experience as a schoolteacher and enjoy working with children. I’m always looking for strategies to help children with unique developmental needs thrive.

In my approach to counseling, I believe in the importance of building a trusting, comfortable relationship with my clients. I know that finding the right therapist is a personal decision, so I emphasize careful consideration of qualifications, relevant experience, and confidentiality. For me, the initial sessions are essential for establishing rapport, which I see as the foundation for effective therapy.
